Dr. Smith specialized in oncology in part because of his compassion for individuals facing a cancer diagnosis – patients who especially needed help and encouragement.  His distinguished career includes leadership of cancer research programs in California and then Texas before coming to St. Helena Hospital in 2001.  He received his medical degree at UCLA, and completed his residency at the UCLA, San Fernando Valley Program, followed by a fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation.  Dr. Smith is board certified in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology and Hematology.

He and his wife enjoy tending their gardens and backyard vineyard.  A serious sports fan, Dr. Smith enjoys watching and playing sports with his three sons.
